Instructions

Preheat oil in a big pot (the high walls reduce spattering) to 350F.  In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, baking soda, and seasoned salt. Add eggs, milk, and hot sauce, mixing into a batter.  Dip okra in batter and fry in batches until golden brown, approximately five minutes. Drain on paper towels and season with a sprinkle of seasoned salt. This recipe can also be used for jalapeño rings, onion slices, green beans, broccoli, etc. It’s great for breading veggies.

Ingredients

  • 1 qt frying oil 
  • Fresh okra, cut into chunks
  • ¼ C cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ C fine cornmeal
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ t seasoned salt 
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ C milk 
  • 2 tsp hot sauce
