1905-1913
First Lady Bina Deneen married Governor Charles Deneen and had four children. Mrs. Deneen hosted events for several Methodist groups, also connected to the founding of the Springfield Woman’s Club and Springfield YWCA. She hosted prayer meetings during the 1909 visit of Billy Sunday to Springfield. In March 1911, Mrs. Deneen held a reception for members of the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association in Springfield to lobby for a state equal suffrage law.
